Notes that certain ore and indicator minerals such as scheelite (and wolframite), chromite, and hydrozincite may be transported by streams for surprisingly long distances. Panning and testing of heavy mineral concentrates can therefore be used for rapid reconnaissance of the mineral potential of relatively large areas, particularly in undeveloped regions. The application of the method in exploration for tungsten in north Pakistan is cited.
