Reduction of the geological noise in magnetotelluric soundings

The author believes that it is hardly possible to reduce the effect of geological noise on magnetotelluric soundings by solving forward and inverse problems for two- and three-dimensional bodies. Therefore, two new approaches are suggested for the purpose. In the first approach a spectrum of the ratio of the diagonal tensors at the frequencies and 0 is calculated, 0 being relatively high so that the field is defined by the geoelectrical parameters of the upper section. The second approach suggests a spatial spectrum analysis of the diagonal impedance tensor.
