SAR integration techniques for geological investigations; case studies in Jordan, Canada and Guyana

SAR integration techniques for geological investigations; case studies in Jordan, Canada and Guyana

Proceedings - Canadian Symposium on Remote Sensing = Compte Rendu du Symposium Canadien sur la Teledetection 17: 734-741

Several techniques have been developed at the Canada Centre for Remote Sensing for the integration of SAR with geophysical and optical data. This paper discusses their utility for geological investigations from case studies in Jordan, Canada and Guyana. In Jordan, the integration of SAR and TM images was used for water harvesting and lithological mapping. In Canada, the integration of high resolution SAR and magnetics was used to characterize faults and dykes at Geneva lake, Ontario. SAR combined with a surficial geologic map shows the close relationship between SAR terrain units and surficial geology at Geralton, Ontario. In Guyana, SAR integrated with TM data assisted in coastal management and sea defense projects, particularly for the identification of unstable shorelines. These examples demonstrate that SAR can be used for geological investigation in arid, temperate and tropical terrains.
