The geochemical characteristics of gold-bearing quartz veins and barren ones in a few newly discovered gold deposits in the Sangquan region, Xinjiang, were studied. Distinctions in fluid inclusions, infrared spectra, and H and O isotopes are shown between the two kinds of veins. Geochemical exploration indicators for gold ore deposits in quartz veins in this region are discussed.
