The structure of the Neath disturbance between Bryniau Gleision and Glynneath, south Wales

The structure of the Neath disturbance between Bryniau Gleision and Glynneath, south Wales

Quarterly Journal of the Geological Society of London 109, Part 3(435): 333-365

The Neath disturbance is a belt of compression in Devonian and Carboniferous rocks along the northern side of the south Wales syncline. Constituting the disturbance are folds trending southwest-northeast (caledonoid), and shear faults and normal faults trending northwest-southeast (charnoid) and southwest-northeast (caledonoid). The caledonoid structures are confined to a narrow zone and include the two major faults, the Dinas and Coed-Hir. The numerous charnoid faults occur at right angles to the caledonoid features. The characteristics of the structures, age relationships, and origin are considered in detail.
