The data obtained through the collaborative bluefin tuna larval survey in 1994 were analyzed from the points to develop a correcting factors among procedures taken by different parties and to give a quick estimation of productivities comparable between two spawning grounds, the Gulf of Mexico and the Mediterranean. Sampling procedures taken by the US, EU (Italy) and Japan are oblique tows of BONGO-type net. The distribution of stations with bluefin tuna larvae and standardized number of larvae sampled per station among different parties showed a good correspondence despite of minor difference in details of sampling gears and procedures. The results of vertical distribution survey indicated that the bluefin tuna larvae concentrate surface and near-surface layers both daytime and night-time. Oblique tows of BONGO-type net through upper mixing layer seemed appropriate as standard sampling procedure for bluefin tuna larvae. Productivities in a sense of larval abundance of both the Gulf of Mexico and the Mediterranean were also estimated using all data collected by three parties during the 1994 activities.
