In the system of sorghum-greenbug (Schizaphis graminum Rond.) interaction we obtained data confirming the hypothesis on relationship of rare insect virulence and reduced fitness. Clones of greenbug from Krasnodar population virulent to genes for resistance Sgr5 and Sgr6 possessed less fecundity in comparison with avirulent one and were superseded under reproduction of model populations on susceptible sorghum line. The main role of the aphid fecundity was shown to provide high fitness causing low frequency of virulent clones in natural populations.
