This paper is a user's introduction to The Natural History Museum/Scottish Association for Marine Sciences numerical biodiversity analysis package, BioDiversity Professional (BDPro). This program is a user-friendly Windows95TM package that integrates with other Windows95TM software so that data can be inputted and results and graphs exported through clipboard. Particular attention has been paid to data manipulation to speed up multiple analysis. A powerful graph editor is included to produce camera-ready copy for inclusion in papers, reports and presentations. Detailed customisation of techniques is possible through a separate Options menu. The program can be entirely mouse-controlled. These features ensure that BDPro is designed to be useful to students, teachers and contractors, as well as professional researchers. BDPro offers a variety of analytical techniques. A number of univariate and graphical alpha and beta diversity measures can be calculated and plotted. Three multivariate methods are available, clustering, principal components ordination and correspondence analysis. Other methods include stochastic models and spatial distribution analysis.
