On the structure of rodent community in Beijing area

On the structure of rodent community in Beijing area

Acta Theriologica Sinica, 44: 265-271

The structure of rodent community in Beijing area was carried out from Aug. 1982 to the end of 1983. Using a night trap method, the rodents were captured in 5 different ecological habitats in mountains and plains. The data indicates that the rodents in Beijing can be divided into 5 communities: Apodemus peninsulae, Clethrionomys rufocanus and A. agrarius; Rattus niviventer, A. agrarius and Mus musculus; Cricetulus triton, A. agrarius and M. musculus; A. agrarius, M; musculus and R. norvegicus; and Cricetulus barabensis A. agrarius and M. musculus. Seasonal composition varies among the different communities; species diversity indexes also differ for different communities. The highest index was in Community A. The distribution of rodent biomass varies among the communities, with the highest biomass in the 3rd community.
