Possible role of Ixodidae ticks in listeriosis and the distribution of this disease among cattle in Georgia

A study of the role of Ixodoidae ticks in listeriosis natural foci was conducted since 1976. Of the 1453 ticks collected, 512 were from the eastern Georgian SSR, USSR and 941 from western Georgia. The ticks found were: Rhipicephalus bursa, Haemaphysalis plumbeum, Dermacentor marginatus, Boophilus calcaratus, Ixodes picinus, H. sulcata. Bacteriological and biological methods were used to distinguish listeriosis from Ixodidae ticks. In natural foci ticks were not vectors of listeriosis. Materials on listeriosis among cattle in Georgia were analyzed and the spread of this disease in the cattle-breeding districts of eastern Georgia was confirmed.
