Fifty breeding Eared Grebes (Podiceps nigricollis) and one American Coot (Fulica americana) were found dead on their nests near Springhouse, British Columbia, in 1986. Carcass analyses suggested that Mink (Mustela vision) were responsible for the killing. This appears to be the first reported instance of surplus killing of waterfowl by Mink in the wild.
