(Un)veiling women's employment in the Egyptian travel business

(Un)veiling women's employment in the Egyptian travel business

Tourism and gender: embodiment, sensuality and experience: 290-301

This chapter focuses on the issue of veiling (the wearing of Islamic dress) in the Egyptian employment context, particularly in travel agencies. It begins by providing a brief history of the veil and an overview of its significance in Islamic societies. The attention then shifts to explore the role of women in the Egyptian labour force in general and in the tourism sector in particular.
