100 Jahre Muffelwild im Harz

100 Jahre Muffelwild im Harz

Beitraege zur Jagd: 13-34

One century history of mouflon (Ovis gmelini musimon) in the eastern Harz mountains is described. The greatest compact population of Ovis g, musimon in Germany has been arisen from naturalisation in 1906 in the forestry office of Harzgerode. Today more than 1600 mouflon leave their scent on an area of ca. 30,000 ha in the eastern Harz mountains. In addition to the above mentioned population there existed and exist respectively mouflon in further 13 areas of the Harz mountains. Ca. 30 different campaigns of naturalisation can be proven. Larger appearances of mouflon exist only in the eastern Harz mountains, Seesen-Lautenthal and Suelzhayn-Ilfeld today. The future of mouflon cannot be predicted since naturalisation of lynx, starting in 2000, could cause a reduction as the case may be a disruption of the mouflon population medium-term. Moreover, 70 years of game re-search are scribed and complemented by a de-tailed bibliography.
