12 cases of cryptococcal meningitis in children

12 children (9 boys and 3 girls) aged between 4.5 and 8 were diagnosed with cryptococcal meningitis. All children showed headache as the first symptom. 7 children (58%) showed signs of meningeal irritation, and 5 (42%) had high temperature (37.5-40 degrees C). One child showed visual disturbance and hypoacusis. 7 children showed increase in intracranial pressure. The total number of pathogens in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) was 28-166/mm3.
