In order to acquire the territory to grow themselves, plants secrete chemical substances which inhibit the germination and the growth of other plants. This action is called allelopathy, which is caused by terpenoids, phenols, alkaloids, flavones, glycoside and so on. Above all, volatile terpenoids and phenols are major compounds for allelopathy. Allelopathy relates to succession of plants and to overcropping trouble.
