Abstract
The paper reports the results of researches on Rhopalocera butterflies in the "Villa Romana" (Roman Villa) nature reserve, near Russi (Ravenna province) carried out from March to October 2005. "Villa Romana" nature reserve consists of about 13 hectares of meadows, brush and wet areas, around the remains of a Roman villa, discovered while exploiting the area as a clay quarry, up to one dozen years ago. The bottom of the ancient quarry, including the Roman villa, is about 10 m below surrounding plain level. The wild area around the archaeological site is managed by WWF as a nature reserve. 32 taxa of Rhopalocera, belonging to 6 families, are reported, with biological observations. Suggestions on area keeping are given, to improve the butterfly population in the biotope.
