Les etats de surface en zone aride a partir d'indices radiometriques et de classifications multitemporelles d'images Landsat TM prises sur la region de Menzel Habib (Tunisie meridionale)

, : Les etats de surface en zone aride a partir d'indices radiometriques et de classifications multitemporelles d'images Landsat TM prises sur la region de Menzel Habib (Tunisie meridionale). Secheresse (Montrouge) 18(4): 305-313

The surveillance of environmental degradation is inevitably based on diachronic studies aimed at detecting the physical and biological changes affecting the components of landscapes. The degradation of landscapes, and conversely their restoration, is reflected on the ground by modification of soil surface components including vegetation. The main objective of this article is to understand both the surface state structure and the dynamics of this process. Such knowledge will help in predicting their evolution. In this context, a methodology based on radiometric indicators was developed. These indicators have shown that they are closely correlated to three radiometric indexes related to general reflectance, chlorophyllian activity and soil colour. The primary treatments carried out with the methodology developed used a series of Landsat TM images. A plan for classifying the changes was then elaborated in order to follow the dynamics of these Sur (ace states as accurately as possible. The application of this methodology to the whole region of Menzel Habib (Southern Tunisia) helped in apprehending the changes of the landscape in relationship to climatic events and population practices as well as in characterizing the capacity of environmental response.
