Occurrence of Syngnathus folletti (Gasterosteiformes, Syngnathidae) in mixohaline environments in the coastal South Atlantic (36S)

Occurrence of Syngnathus folletti (Gasterosteiformes, Syngnathidae) in mixohaline environments in the coastal South Atlantic (36S)

Biogeographica (Paris): 801-4: 13-25

This paper includes the report of the presence of Syngnathus folletti in Samborombon Bay, at 35deg. 19'S 56deg. 47'W, in low-salinity and high-temperature waters near the mouth of the Rio de la Plata. The species should be considered part of a well defined euryhaline species group. Females may be successively or simultaneous polygamous, a strategy which is probably the optimal for the group.
