From the mid-1800s to the present, there have been three major breakthroughs in the philosophy of oil and gas exploration. The first breakthrough was from oil seepage to the anticlinal theory. The second breakthrough was from the anticlinal theory to the trap theory. The third breakthrough was from the trap theory to the petroleum system. The philosophy of oil finding promotes the petroleum geosciences and exploration technology.
