Pregnancy toxaemia in goats and its therapeutic management - a case study

Pregnancy toxaemia in goats and its therapeutic management - a case study

Indian Journal of Veterinary Medicine 28(1): 77-78

Hypoglycaemia is a consistent feature of pregnancy toxaemia in sheep and goats. Four goats under advanced stage of pregnancy were presented to the college clinics (India, date not given). The goats showed sternal recumbency, depression, anorexia, staggering and muscle seizure. The mean blood glucose level in 3 goats (26, 35 and 36 mg/dl) and normal blood glucose (46 mg/dl) in one goat indicated the lowest level of glucose nearer to pregnancy.
