Seasonal notes on the dog tick

Seasonal notes on the dog tick

Jour Iowa State Med Soc 31(7): 278

Dermacentor variabilis were found as early as Apr. in north-central Iowa and incidence increased rapidly until May 1. Only a few nymphs were found in the Spring. The incidence of larvae was greater and they were found on the northern white mouse and Mearns cottontail rabbit, indicating that these animals play important roles as hosts for immature forms of the organism.
