The association between Polyzoa and algal substrata
Observations are given on the association between 47 species of British marine Polyzoa and the substrata on which they occur, with particular reference to algae. The data show that many of the intertidal species exhibit definite preferences, which accord with results of earlier selection experiments using larvae. Preferences seem less marked in infralittoral species, and it is suggested that substratum selection by settling larvae may help to determine vertical distribution of polyzoans on the shore.
