A new strain of the tomato leaf mold fungus Cladosporium fulvum

A new strain of the tomato leaf mold fungus Cladosporium fulvum

Phytopath 32(10): 901-904

The 2d crop after the introduction of the leaf mold resistant tomato var. Globelle leaf-mold lesions were observed on it. Observations indicated the presence of a new strain of the fungus. In cross-inoculation tests, Globe and 3 other standard vars. were used as susceptible. The resistant vars. used were the resistant parent Lycopersicon pimpinellifolium, and the 3 resistant vars., Globelle, Bay State and Veto-mold developed from it. All plants of the standard vars. were susceptible alike to both strains of the fungus. All plants of the resistant vars. were highly resistant to or immune from the Globe strain, but were all susceptible to the Globelle strain of the fungus. Observational evidence indicated that Globelle was less susceptible than standard vars. such as Globe.
