An Andean disease of potato tubers

, : An Andean disease of potato tubers. Phytopath 33(11): 1086-1089

A disease, locally called "buba", was found on native potato vars. at high altitudes in the State of Merida, Venezuela. About 10% of the tubers were affected. The disease also occurs in Ecuador and Peru. Affected tubers are malformed, and numerous brownish-black specks occur throughout the flesh. These are cavities filled with yellowish-brown spore-balls containing 2-8 cells. Attempts at spore-germination failed. Bliss Triumph seed pieces planted in infected soil in pots produced tubers showing evidence of infection.
