Atypische Koli und Milchinfektion.

Jahrb Kinderheilk 123(1/2): 80-94

The author states that colon bacilli, although invariably present even in the cleanest milk, are generally non-infectious, but that in some cases they produced vomiting. The cause of this trouble is ascribed to the presence of strains of pathogenic colon bacilli. This vomiting was never observed in children fed with buttermilk, the acid preventing colon bacilli from multiplying. Vomiting followed feeding with boiled milk, and the conclusion is that colon bacilli must have gained access after boiling; 5 strains were isolated from stomach contents and stools of children who could not tolerate the milk.
