The distinctive characters of the family Bombyliidae and of the 7 genera (Anthrax, Argyramoeba, Cyrlosia, Geron, Phthina, Systoechus, Bombylius) found in the Canary Islands are given; also full descriptions of the 19 species and 5 varieties occurring in these islands, with brief notes on their distribution. Keys are given for the local species of Anthrax and Cyrtosia.
