Bone grafting in nose surgery

Bone grafting in nose surgery

Practica Oto Rhino Laryngol 23(3): 199-206

Although not ideal, the best material for correcting saddle deformities of the nose appears to be self grafted bone. When properly inserted, it shows little or no tendency to absorb. There is no ensuing deformity, and the tissues tolerate the graft well. The bone graft is taken from the inner table of the iliac bone, to ensure that it is entirely composed of spongy bone. The graft is shaped to fit the deformity which is to be filled. It is introduced after carefully preparing the bedding site, taking care to rugine the periostium very carefully, to ensure proper contact between the graft and the true bone. This graft enables us to deal with all types of saddle deformities of the nose and always gives a continuous outline.
