Causes for differing radiosensitivity in closely related plants. L

Causes for differing radiosensitivity in closely related plants. L

Radiobiologiya 4(5): 764-769

The difference in the radiosensitivity of corn varieties studied existed not only during the dry seed stage but also when these seeds germinated. The nature of their reaction to irradiations of different linear ionization density was retained. The difference in sensitivity to gamma-irradiation was also retained in all the developmental phases; it was possible to trace this by cultivating the corn in a gamma-field. As a result of making a model of the action of 1 of the factors which can cause chromosome damage from the action of radiation, namely water radiolysis radicals, it was possible to explain that the differences in the radiosensitivity of the chromosomes of 2 corn varieties were not related to their differing resistance to the active radicals (OH and HO2) which form during water radiolysis.
