Changes in pigs with infectious gastroenteritis complicated by balantidiosis and paratyphoid

Changes in pigs with infectious gastroenteritis complicated by balantidiosis and paratyphoid

Veterinariya 40(2): 35-38

Histologic examinations showed that virus gastroenteritis affecting some recently weaned young pigs was complicated by balantidiosis or paratyphoid. Balantidiosis was indicated by the typical ulceration of the mucosa of the large intestine and paratyphoid by the presence of necrotic paratyphoid nodules in the parenchyma of the liver. The conclusion was reached that some of the animals infected with virus gastroenteritis die of balantidiosis or paratyphoid accompanying this disease.
