Changes in the diurnal activity of Opatrum sabulosum during a season

Zool Zh 45(5): 667-674

Changes in the diurnal activity of Opatrum sabulosum during a season

The diurnal activity of O. sabulosum beetles during a warm season is mainly determinecTby the temperature and air and soil humidity. The temperature optimum of the activity of the beetles described changes during the season. The time of their activity also undergoes changes. In early spring beetles are most active at noon. In May, Opatrum sabulosum leads the active mode of life mainly during morning and evening hours. Later beetles are completely absent from the soil surface during day hours In most of their stations. The diurnal behavior of tenebrionid beetles should be taken into consideration when chemical measures are undertaken to control them.
