Changes in the peripheral blood of patients with cancer of the lung and cervix uteri during megavolt therapy

The study of alterations in the leukocyte and thrombocyte count, leukocytograms and also in the blood clot retraction in 19 patients with cervix uteri cancer and 22 patients with cancer of the lung subjected to megavoltage X-raytherapy was demonstrated. The development of leucopenia on account of reduction in the number of lymphocytes, nuclear segment neutrophils and reduced rate of the blood clot retraction was discussed. Changes in the thrombocyte count and correlation of elements in thrombocytogram (a shift to the left) both prior to treatment and during the X-ray therapy were found mostly to be relative to the state of the tumor process.
