Comparative Analyses of Some of the Free Amino Acids in Anthers of Fertile and Genetic Cytoplasmic Male Sterile Sorghum

Six free amino acids in the anthers of fertile, genetic cytoplasmic male sterile, and restorer lines of Sorghum vulgare were analyzed by paper chromato-graphy. The principal difference detected was an accumulation on a dry weight basis of glycine at the prepollen stage in the anthers of sterile lines. The average concentration of glycine in the restorer lines at this same stage approximated that for the fertile lines more closely than that for the sterile lines.
