Composition of colostrum of Holstein- Friesian, Jersey and their F1 crosses

Changes in 16 different constituents and properties of colostrum and milk from 25 Holsteins, 8 Jerseys and 10 F1 crosses of Holstein and Jersey were followed for the 1st 20 days of lactation. Marked changes occurred within the 1st 4 days of lactation followed by gradual changes until the milk became normal around the 12th day of lactation. No significant difference from the trend was observed between the 3 groups of cows. However, in the 1st milking, in the means of 1. to 4. day of lactation and in the means of the 1. to 12. day of lactation there was a significant difference between the 3 groups with respect to Ca, P, K, Na, total titratible acid, and pH.
