Computer simulation of neurophysiology and social systems

Computer simulation of neurophysiology and social systems

Behavioral Sci 7(3): 407-412

The point of this paper is to emphasize the use of the computer as a simulation device for the study of complex neurophysiological and social systems. The author discusses stimulus response behavior and includes useful illustrations. The problem in medical diagnosis is touched upon. The matter of decision making[long dash]small group behavior is referred to. Short reference to simulation in international relations and diplomacy is included. The author maintains that it can be seen that simulation, especially computer simulation, provides a rigorous frame work in which to express and test theories about behavior in the real world. It enables us to do so either at the level of the nerve impulses or of automations. It is concluded that by applying the techniques of computer simulation we can extend the range of behavior that the psychologist can study.
