Contribution to the study of the trematodes of bats. Revision of the subgenus Prosthodendrium Dollfus and the genera Lecithodendrium Looss 1896 and Pycnoporus Looss 1899

Contribution to the study of the trematodes of bats. Revision of the subgenus Prosthodendrium Dollfus and the genera Lecithodendrium Looss 1896 and Pycnoporus Looss 1899

Rev Suisse Zool 67(1): 1-80

Study is based on Swiss fauna only. Sp. diagnoses and keys are given for Prosthodendrium (23 spp.), Lecithodendrium (9 spp.) and Pycnoporus (7 spp.). The subfamily Lecithodendriinae Luhe 1901, emended by Looss 1902, is reconstituted and characterized, and a generic key is provided. Prosthodendrium hurkovaae, P. rosorum and Lecithodendrium rysavyi are described. The genera Chiropterodendrium, Travassodendrium - and Skrjabinodendrium, erected by Skarbilovich (1943) are suppressed as synonyms of Prosthodendrium. The genus Mesodendroides Skarbilovich, 1948 is reduced to a subgenus in Lecithodendrium. The genus Ochoterenatrema Caballero, 1943; suppressed by Yamaguti, 1958, is restored. The genus Lecithoporus Mehra, 1935 is suppressed and the spp. are transferred to Pycnoporus Looss, 1899. The subfamilies Prosthodendriinae, Pycnoporinae and Castroiinae, erected by Yamaguti, 1958, are suppressed and the genera are transferred to Lecithodendriinae.
