Copper tolerance of Penicillium waksmani Zaleski

P. waksmani isolated from laboratory dust can grow in saturated solns. of CuSO4. Sporulation is suppressed by very dilute solns. of CuSO4. Spore germination is retarded markedly in conc. solns. of CuSO4. Growth was possible, but sporulation stopped, in conc. solns. of other salts (NaCl, KCl, CaCl2, NH4Cl, ZnSO4, MnCl2. Growth and spore formation were observed in 15% ethyl alcohol; 0.2% formaldehyde killed the spores.
