The number of admissions for alcoholic cirrhosis to the Bichat Hospital has decreased 87% between 1938 and 1944. The number of admissions for delirium tremens suddenly increased during the first days of mobilization in 1939 and at the time of the German victory in May and June 1940. Not a single case was observed during Aug. 1944[long dash]the month of liberation. Alcoholic psychoses, which constituted 48% of admissions to the mental pavilion of the St. Anthony Hos-pital, were reduced by 50% during the war.
