Distribution of C14-labelled -mercaptopropylamine in the tissues of the organism and its excretion from the body of healthy and irradiated mice

The distribution and elimination of intraperitoneally administered: [beta]-mercaptopropylamine, labelled with radioactive carbon, was investigated in white male mice. Studies were made of the liver, kidneys, spleen, stomach, the large and small intestines, the heart. lungs, brain, muscles, skin and blood. Ten minutes after administration of aminothiole, C14-[beta]-mercaptopropylamine was detected in all organs and tissues studied. The greatest content was noted in the kidneys. spleen, lungs, and liver. Following irradiation with 812 r there was a statistically significant decrease in the concentration of C14-[beta]-mercaptopropylamine in all tissues studied. C14-[beta]-mercaptopropylamine is rapidly eliminated in urine and feces; urinary excretion is far greater than fecal.
