In deep medicinal sleep of rats with one denervated posterior extremity there was an increase in the mitotic activity of epidermal cells. The mitotic activity in the epidermis of denervated extremities proved to be lower than that of intact ones. This indicated that the denervated tissue did not lose the capacity to respond to the action of a hypnotic by a change in the number of division cells.
