Effect of nursery bed density on loblolly and slash pine seedlings

Jour Forest 59(8): 576-579

Nursery-bed densities of approximately 40 living plants/square foot at lifting produced more field-established seedlings than densities of 10, 20, and 30/square foot. Lowering bed density improved morphological quality and when planting was in a droughty year increased seedling survival. Changes in density influenced loblolly and slash pines similarly.
