Feeding of milk pasteurized at 63[degree]C. to mature rats resulted in early death or diminished vitality of the offspring. It has been established that vitamin D is unaffected by pasteurization and since vitamin C was provided in the food, the condition was evidently due to lack of vitamin A. This should not be used as an argument against pasteurization of milk, provided an additional diet is supplied.
