Effect of the electric field of the atmosphere on the assimilation of nutrient elements by plants Plant Physiology, agrochemistry, and soil science

Oat and tomato plants were tested in the open under conditions of natural atmospheric electric charge and in an artificial electric field under a net supplied with the necessary electric charge (from +2000 to -2000 volts). The control plants were insulated by a grounded copper net. The assimilation of single nutrient substances by the plants was then calculated from the analysis of the solutions before and after the experiment. The uptake by the aerial part of the plants of ions having a charge opposite to that in the electric field, was enhanced by the latter. It was concluded that by surrouding the plants with an artifical electric field assimilation of anions or cations may be enhanced.
