Experimental bone and tissue vibrator assembly

Experimental bone and tissue vibrator assembly

Us Air Force Tech Doc Rep Amrl Tr 65-11: 1-22

A special purpose laboratory vibrator has been developed for use in experimental investigations of hearing by bone and tissue conduction and of mechanical driving point impedance of tissue and bone. The vibrator assembly is floated on an air bearing to provide resonance-free operation over the frequency range of 100 - 10,000 cps and at in-tensity levels of 60 decibels above threshold of hearing. Special sensors within the unit provide measurement of the tip velocity of the alternating pressure transmitted by the head and the force due to an external load. Design features and calibration procedures are discussed in this report.
