Experimental studies on passive immunization against poliomyelitis. III. Passive-active immunization and pathogenesis after virus feeding in chimpanzees

Experimental studies on passive immunization against poliomyelitis. III. Passive-active immunization and pathogenesis after virus feeding in chimpanzees

American Journal of Hygiene 58(1): 81-100

In expts. with 18 chimpanzees, 9 were passively i mmunized with specific hyperimmune serum at the time of simple feeding with a Type 2 poliomyelitis strain, and 9 others were only fed the virus. Studies were made of clinical responses, pathological changes in the central nervous system, fecal virus excretion, viremia, and specific serum antibody responses in the 2 groups. No clinical signs or pathological changes in the central nervous system were observed in the treated animals.
