Experimental studies on the intestinal absorption of calcium. 2. Absorption of calcium from the upper, middle and lower parts of small intestine and the large intestine of rats

Experimental studies on the intestinal absorption of calcium. 2. Absorption of calcium from the upper, middle and lower parts of small intestine and the large intestine of rats

Shikoku Acta Med 15(5): 1314-1317

Calcium gluconate was administered into the upper, middle and lower parts of the isolated surviving small intestine and the isolated surviving large intestine of rats by Wiseman's method modified by Miyao et al, and the final amounts of Ca in serosal and mucosal solution were examined. The amount of Ca in serosal solution gradually increased with time. The rate of Ca absorption from the upper, middle, and lower parts of small intestine and the large intestine after 1 hour circulating was 3.3, 7.8, 5.9, and 6.6% respectively. The amount of Ca absorbed from the small intestine was almost 2 times larger than that of the large intestine.
