This is a tabulation of species including 1 sp. Gasterochisma melampus not previously reported from Chilean waters. There is a key to genera and sp. Also there is a key to the forms of the important sp. Sarda sarda. Eleven of the more important fish are described with measurements at different sex-ages. Food as determined by stomach analyses is recorded. For some there are ecological, distribution and collection data. Three spp. are illustrated. The respective values of the fish are indicated by tonnage of catches from 1940 to 1952. Sarda sarda chiliensis, e. g. contributed 4,929 tons in 1952 whereas only 85 tons were taken in 1940. Synonyms and common names are given. There is a bibliography of 41 entries.
