Using plastids it is possible to devise new methods, which are required for analysis of macroscopic and microscopic models and for developing a general theory of intra-individual cytoplasmic combinations. The effect and recognition of a deficient mixture of genetic carriers between 2 cell divisions is discussed. This type of mixture generally leads to active acceleration of the mixing, and the following results: macroscopically, to a shortening of the period of the finely spotted, boxed arrangement and to the rapid appearance of a larger, quite changed leaf surface with the spots remaining in a one sided plastid distribution, scattered haphazardly over the leaf surface; microscopically, there is a decrease in the number of mixed cells, which leads to particularly sharp area limits, and results in more or less frequent appearance of isolated, homo-plastomatic, mutated single cells in the green tissue and to sister cells with strongly opposite plastid stock. There is an arrangement of different kinds of plastids in the heteroplastid hybrid cells in the still potentially dividing leaf tissue. Thus, cytoplasmic inheritance is important not only for the succession of generations but also for the intra-individual differentiation.
