Hand clasping among the 8 endogamous groups of Maharashtrian Brahmins

Hand clasping among the 8 endogamous groups of Maharashtrian Brahmins

Acta Genetica et Statistica Medica 18(3): 283-288

Data on hand-clasping among 8 endogamous groups of Maharashtrian Brahmins is reported. In all but one of the groups considered, the percentage of 'R' individuals exceeds that of 'L' individuals, group inter-series analysis revealed some variation. The variability of this trait in various populations tended to show that the percentage of 'R' individuals is minimum in the Caucasoids and maximum among the Australoids and Proto-australoids, being 50.0 and 66. 5 respectively. The Mongoloid occupy an intermediate position, being nearer to Caucasoids.
