Influence of temperature and moisture on soil phosphorus. II. Effect prior to and during cropping on phosphorus availability

Millet was grown with and without added P at 1 temperature and moisture level on samples which had been incubated at 23[degree], 2.7[degree] and -20.5[degree] C and at moisture levels of 40, 60 to 70 and 100% of filled capacity. The higher the soil temperature prior to cropping the greater was the P uptake. Soil moisture prior to cropping had no effect. When millet was grown on soil at 3 soil moisture levels and 2 soil temperatures, soil moisture affected P uptake at 16[degree]C but not at 21 to 33[degree]C soil temperature. Responses of wheat to applied P in field experiments was also related to soil moisture and soil temperature during cropping.
