Influence of the extracts of several kinds of endocrine organs upon propagation of cells in culture

Influence of the extracts of several kinds of endocrine organs upon propagation of cells in culture

In Japanese Dobutsugaku Zasshi Zool Mag 57(7): 108-110

The author examined the influences of tissue extracts of various kinds of endocrine organs of 10- to 11-month cocks upon propagation of connective tissue cells which were obtained from the frontal bone of chick embryo of 16 days' incubation. The tissues of endocrine organs were extracted in 4 vols. of Tyrode soln. and to this was added an equal quantity of the blood plasma of the chick embryo. 2,4,6 and 8 days after culture the length of cell layers deposited from the margin of the original cell piece was measured. Cell propagation was stimulated most by thyroid but hypophyseal tissue was effective. The thymus was far less effective than the organs mentioned above and even less effective than the control, which was the blood plasm of a chick embryo to which was added the extract or the embryo itself. Another control, the blood plasm of chick embryo alone, was least effective.
